River transport in Ukraine should grow threefold — Kryklii

Implementation of the reform in the area of water transport will be a good incentive for expanding capabilities of the transport infrastructure of Ukraine and will enable to triple the transportation of goods by river in the coming years. It was stated by Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklii, press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure reports.

‘Development of river transport will give an opportunity to unload roads and protect them from destruction as well as promote creation of new jobs by increasing orders to be carried out by the Ukrainian shipbuilding companies’, Kryklii said during presentation of To Do List in Kharkiv on Tuesday .

In particular, in 2020 four gateways are be repaired to ensure safety of the navigation.

According to the Minister, seaports constitute an important link that closes river, railway and road transportation in Ukraine. Therefore, the government pays special attention to development of the port industry. ‘It is here, in the ports of Olvia and Kherson, the first concession projects are being implemented. The next in turn are Mariupil, Mykolaiv, Odesa and ferry complex in the sea port of Chornomorsk. This format of public-private partnership will enable to attract necessary investments into the industry and ensure decent working conditions for people’, he emphasized.

Kryklii also described the new electronic services the introduction of which is a part of the national development plan of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers as a service for citizens and business. These services include: introduction of single electronic ticket for all types of transport for the citizens; seaman's e-port and electronic office for the port industry, electronic consignment note, carrier’s electronic office for business.
